ما از خدای گم شدہ ایم او بجستجوست

We are gone astray from God; He is searching upon the road, | For like us, He is need entire. And the prisoner of desire.

On the tulip’s petal He writes. The message His heart indites, | Yea, and His voice is heard. In the passionate song of the bird.

کبھی وہ برگ لالہ پر اپنا پیام لکھتا ہے، اور کبھی وہ پرندوں کے سینوں میں (بیٹھ کر) ان کی ہا و ہو کا سبب بنتا ہے۔

He lay in the iris’ fold. Our loveliness to behold; | Bright cup of the ardent gaze. Whose glance is a hymn of praise!

کبھی وہ نرگس میں بیٹھ کر (اس کی آنکھ سے) ہمارے جمال کا نظارہ کرتا ہے، یہ اس کا کرشمہ ہے کہ نرگس کی آنکھ گفتگو کرتی ہے۔

Parted from us, forlorn, He sighs with the breath of morn, | Within and out He doth stand, Around, and on every hand.

اس نے شبنم ہمارے فراق میں جو آہ بھری، وہ کائنات کے باہر، اندر، اوپر ، نیچے چاروں طرف پھیلی ہوئی ہے۔

Great riot created He. A creature of clay to see, | Fashioned the piercing view. To gaze upon mortal hue.

کائنات کی یہ ساری ہنگامہ آرائی آدم خاکی کے دیدار کے لیے ہے، تماشائے رنگ و بو اسی کے نظارے کا بہانہ ہے۔

Hidden in every grain. Not yet is He known to man, | Though bright as the full moon’s grace. In cottage and street is His face.

وہ ذرے ذرے میں پنہاں ہے ، (دوسری طرف وہ) چاندنی کی طرح ظاہر ہے اور کاخ و کو پر چھایا ہوا ہے (مگر ہم سے پھر بھی ) نا آشنا ہے۔

In our envelope all of dust. The jewel of life is lost; | Is it we, or Himself (O say), This pearl that is gone astray?

ہمارے خاکدان میں زندگی کا موتی گم ہے، یہ گم شدہ موتی ہم ہیں یا وہ؟
