چہ پرسے از کجایم چیستم من ؟بہ خود پیچیدہ ام تا زیستم من
O ask not what I am, or whence came I: ’Tis self-involvement I am living by:
تو کیا پوچھتا ہے کہ میں کہاں سے آیا ہوں اور کیا ہوں ۔ ان سوالوں کا جواب عقل کی دسترس سے باہر ہے ۔ خود اقبال کہتے ہیں خرد مندوں سے کیا پوچھوں کی میری ابتدا کیا ہے کہ میں ا س فکر میں رہتا ہوں میری انتہا کیا ہے ۔
درین دریا چو موج بیقرارماگر بر خود نپیچم نیستم من
Within this sea I am a restless wave, And when I am no more involved, I die.
میں سمندر میں بے چین موج کی طرح ہوں ۔ اگر خود سے نہ لپٹا رہوں تو فنا ہو جاؤں ۔
