چہ گویم نکتۂ زشت و نکو چیستزبان لرزد کہ معنی پیچدار است
What maketh Foul and Fair, how shall I say? Tongue trembleth, such a riddle to declare:
میں کیا کہوں کہ نیکی اور بدی (خیر و شر) کیا ہے ۔ زبان لرزتی ہے کیونکہ (یہ) مضمون سخت مشکل ہے ۔
برون از شاخ بینی خار و گل رادرون او نہ گل پیدا نہ خار است
Without the stem, thou seest rose and thorn; Within, nor rose nor thorn is patent there.
تو کانٹے اور پھول کو شاخ سے باہر دیکھتا ہے مگر اس کے اندر نہ پھول ہے نہ کانٹا (باد بہار میں تو نہ خار تھا نہ پھول، انہیں شاخوں نے خود پیدا کیا ہے ۔ مراد ہے نیکی اور بدی اپنے نقطہ نظر اور طرز عمل کا نتیجہ ہے ۔ )
