Ancient wine and youthful beloved are-nothing; for men of true vision the houris of Paradise are-nothing.

پرانی شراب اور جوان معشوق کی کوئی اہمیت نہیں ہے اور اہل نظر کے نزدیک جنت کی حور بھی کوئی چیز نہیں ہے ۔

Whatever you know as firm and enduring passes away, mountain and desert, land, sea and shore are-nothing.

ہر وہ شے جسے تو مضبوط اور ہمیشہ رہنے والی سمجھتا ہے وہ گزر جانے والی ہے اسے فنا ہے ۔ یہ پہاڑ اور صحرا اور خشکی اور سمندر اور ساحل سب کی کوئی اہمیت نہیں ہے (ہر شے فانی ہے) ۔

The science of the Westerners, the philosophy of the Easterners are all idol-houses, and the visiting of idols yields-nothing

اہل مغرب، یورپ کی دانش اور اہل مشرق کا فلسفہ ، یہ سب بت کدے ہیں اور بتوں کے طواف سے کچھ حاصل نہیں ہے ۔

وہ راہ جسے میں نے اپنی پلکوں کی نوک سے تراشا ہے اس میں منزل اور قافلہ اور اڑتی ہوئی ریت کوئی چیز نہیں ہے ۔

Transcend the unseen, for this doubt and surmise are nothing; to be in the world and to escape from the world-that is. Something!

تو غیب سے گزر جا، اس لیے کہ یہ سب وہم و گمان ہے اور وہم و گمان کوئی چیز نہیں ہے ، جہان میں بستے ہوئے اس سے آزاد رہنا ضرور قابل قدر شے ہے ۔

The Paradise that some God grants unto you is nothing; when Paradise is the reward of your labours-that is something.

وہ بہشت جو خدا نے تجھے عطا کی ہے وہ سب ہیچ ہے ۔ ہاں اگر وہ جنت تیرے عملوں کے باعث، جزا کی صورت میں تجھے ملی ہے تو وہ ضرور کوئی چیز ہے ۔

Do you seek repose for your soul? The soul’s repose is nothing; the tear shed in sorrow for your companions-that is something.

کیا تجھے آرام جاں کی خواہش ہے یاد رکھ کہ آرامِ جاں کوئی چیز نہیں ہے ۔ ہاں اپنے ساتھیوں کے غم میں شریک ہو کر آنسو بہانا ایک قابل قدر بات ہے ۔

The wine-drenched eye, the temptress glance and the song are all fair, but sweeter than these-there is something.

نشیلی آنکھ اور غلط انداز اور گانا بجانا، سب اچھی باتیں ہیں لیکن ان سے بھی اچھی کوئی چیز ہے ۔

The cheek’s beauty lives for a moment, in a moment is no more; the beauty of action and fine ideals-that is something.

رخسار کا حسن کتنا ہی دلکش کیوں نہ ہو وہ ایک لمحہ ہے اور دوسرے لمحہ نہیں ۔ البتہ کردار و عمل اور خیالات کا حسن ضرور اہمیت رکھتے ہیں ۔

(رقاصہ کہتی ہے ) تو اس بیقرار دل کو کشمکش کا موقع یا اجازت نہ دے ۔ تو اپنے پیچدار گیسووَں میں ایک دو بل اور ڈال دے ۔

تیری وجہ سے میرے سینے میں وہ برق تجلی ہے کہ میں نے چاند اور سورج کو بھی انتظار کی تلخی سے دوچار کر دیا ہے ۔

The joy of God’s presence founded in this world idolatry’s wont; love ever eludes the soul that is full of hope.

ذوقِ دید نے دنیا میں بت گری کی رسم کی بنیاد رکھی، امیدوار جان کو عشق فریب دیتا ہے ۔

So that with carefree heart I may play a new melody give back again to the meadow the true bird of the meadow.

اس خاطر کہ میں دل جمعی سے کوئی نیا نغمہ چھیڑوں تو پھر سے سبزہ زار کے پرندے کو سبزہ زار کی طرف بھیج دے ۔
